Snow on Mount Washington - Lots of it.

Summit of Mount Washington and skier

Skier heading out of Tuckerman Ravine and towards the summit of Mount Washington

Four days of serious snow blowing in on and East wind made for some unusual snow conditions all over Mount Washington.  Wide open snow fields covered areas were stunted trees usually reign, and six foot tall cairns barely visible on Lion Head Trail.  After a less than average winter, conditions for skiing in Tuckerman Ravine, Gulf of Slides and many other popular spring destinations should be better than average after this big dump of white stuff. photo: Joe Klementovich

Gargoyles of Mount Washington

Low clouds pr high humidity creates a gorgeous coating of rime ice on anything that stands out against the wind. On the way into Tuckerman Ravine the rocks, trees and bushes were covered in a creamy white glaze for only minutes, quickly melting once the sun shines. Photography: Joe Klementovich

Another day at the office

Jeff Lane, working his way out into Right Gully on the North side of Tuckerman Ravine while investigating snow stability. Not the easiest conditions to work in for a photographer or for an avalanche forecaster. Noted for having the “Worlds Worst Weather” Mount Washington is the only place on the east coast that has an avalanche forecasting center. Photo: Joe Klementovich
